Prisoners, Disability and the NDIS

A prisoner who has a NDIS plan and appoints Pivot to provide support coordination services will have the support to ensure there is collaboration and coordination between correctional facilities, disability service providers, and the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA).  If the plan includes specific funding for Occupational Therapy (OT), Pivot can arrange for a comprehensive assessment of prisoners' disabilities and support requirements to ensure that specific needs are identified and met with appropriate supports. These assessments will address the impact of physical, intellectual, and mental health disabilities, as well as any additional support requirements such as mobility aids or communication devices. Our services will provide prisoners with disabilities the appropriate care and support to improve overall well-being and help them reduce the risk of re-offending.

As both a reintegration and a NDIS provider, Pivot can play a vital role in facilitating the continuity of support for individuals with disabilities as they reintegrate into the community. By developing comprehensive reintegration plans that consider housing, healthcare, employment, and ongoing disability support, we can increase the chance of successful community integration for individuals with disability. Additionally, providing NDIS services to prisoners acknowledges their right to equality when accessing disability support, promoting inclusivity and social equity within the criminal justice system.
